Eli McKamey, 15, Makes History as BCHL’s First Exceptional Status Player
Eli McKamey, a 15-year-old hockey player based in Cowichan Bay, British Columbia, has achieved exceptional status in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). This status grants him early eligibility to join the league, allowing him to play a year ahead of others in his age group. McKamey’s remarkable journey includes skipping second-year atom hockey, bypassing Grade 7, and playing under-18 hockey at Shawnigan Lake School. While the Western Hockey League (WHL) also grants exceptional status, McKamey has chosen the BCHL for now to explore both routes before making a decision. His parents, supportive of his aspirations, appreciate having an option close to home. McKamey’s talent and determination have set him on a unique path in Canadian junior hockey.
